Lincoln's run in this years Denny Cup came to a disappointing end when we narrowly lost to Nottingham. from Gordon Wood
|
Lincoln lost 69 - 80 winning on one rink only. Losing at home by 2 and losing away by 9. It was a close game but to be fair Nottingham deserved the win, especially Tom Doig who beat Billy's rink at Lincoln. Both away rinks battled well but lost on both rinks.
Lincoln had the better of the early stages being up 19 - 17 at 5 ends. Tony Gilroy's rink 3-4, George Draper's rink 2-5 while the home rinks were Kevin Rands 7-5 and Billy Jackson's rink 7-3 10 ends saw the impetus slightly in Nottingham's favour as they led by a single shot.Tony was now 10-8, George 5-10, Kevin 9-12 and Billy 11-6 10 to 15 ends proved difficult for the Lincoln side as Nottinghamshire led on all rinks, picking up a 5 on one rink encouraged them to greater efforts. 15 end score was Lincoln 48 - Nottingham 61, a Nottinghan lead of 13 shots, which at this level takes some getting back. Lincoln pulled back slightly to be only 9 shots down at 18 ends. The game was pretty even at this stage making life difficult for Lincoln. Nottingham ran out worthy winners by 11 shots, 69 - 80
Good luck to Nottingham in the next round.
My thanks to Dennis Skayman for the information from the away venue throughout the day. Also my gratitude to the players who have played in this years Denny Cup, every player played his part.
The one disappointment was that a club of nearly 1400 could only muster 16 spectators to support the team at home against strong opposition.
