A Busy Weekend !! from Danny Brown
|
The LINCOLN OPEN SINGLES sponsored by WILLOWS BUILDING & MAINTENANCE LTD takes place this weekend with first round matches on Friday night (8.30pm) and the main event all through the day on Saturday 7th October. The event is now in it's 11th year and is always a favourite with the Open Singles Circuit regulars - we never have any trouble filling the field nice and early with quality players and this year is no exception! Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors Willows (club members Kev & Dean Stevenson), we are once again able to offer top cash prizes to players reaching the quarter finals onwards, with an £800 prize available to the winner! Local interest in abundance on the Friday night session with Lincoln players Greg Smith, Janet Crabb, Danny Brown, Gordon Wood, Jim Pullen, Lynda Jones, Brenda Barlow, George Draper, Steve Derby and current title holder Sam Ashton all in action. Billy Jackson and Alan Watts make up the contingent of home players with their 1st round matches scheduled on Saturday morning where the action gets underway at 8.30am Star names travelling over include Grand Prix regulars Nick Brett, Neil Smith, Wayne Willgress, Bex Field, Andy Ware and Les Gillett who opens with a tasty tie against Commonwealth gold medallist and multi national title winner Ellen Falkner at 11.30am. OSC Number 1 ranked player Paul Maynard fresh from victory last week at Stamford takes on Bex Field at 10am and England internationals Gary R Smith, Michael Knight, Donna Knight, Mathew Orrey and Alex Walton are all in action Saturday morning.
If that's not enough action this weekend our UNDER 25s DOUBLE RINK team take to the green on Sunday morning in a first round tie v South Forest. This is the first time in a good while that we have entered a team for this competition, assisted by the fact that it has now become a triples event rather than the traditional fours format. Our youngsters have a lot to live up to - Lincoln IBC won the event in it's inaugural year and followed it up a year later to land back to back National titles in 1987 & 1988! If you can get to the club to lend your support it would be most appreciated. The home rink of John Nott, Ryan Jackson and Sam Ashton will play on Rink 2 with Kev Rands lending his support and experience from the sidelines; and Danny Brown will oversee things at South Forest where Hannah Urquhart, Greg Smith and James Staples will battle it out. 10am start - Don't miss it!!
